The Baby Express

Here is another layout I did of my precious Grandson Jacob. This one is done in a train theme. The doors of the train can be opened so you can see mini pictures of him. I put the pages in page protectors but I used an exacto knife to cut openings where the train doors and his name/age are so that they could still be opened if someone was looking through the album. I used cotton baton for the smoke coming out of the train engine and train brads in the title. I just love his little smile and his beautiful blue eyes.
Hope you like the layout.

Goin' Bananas

I had so much fun today working on this 2 page layout of my precious Grandson Jacob. He is almost 10 months old now but he was 2 1/2 months when the pictures were taken. I spent the most time trying to find monkeys to use and finally ended up using special stickers I had plus some paper piecing. In the 2nd picture Jacob's little hand was in just the perfect position and I was able to cut carefully around his little fingers and put the banana sticker in his hand so it looks like he is holding it.

Climbing My Family Tree

Something interesting happened yesterday. I received an email from a distant relative who had found my Genealogy website that I had made back in 2004. He wanted to share information with me regarding my ancestors. To me it is so exciting to hear from someone who shares my family tree.

My maiden name is Harrison and I have been researching that branch of my family since I was 13 years old. My father died that year and I realized that I knew very little about his family as most of them were in England. So I set out on a 40 year search for information. Over the years I might work on my tree for months at a time but then I would set it aside as work and raising my family made it difficult for me to give much time to it. Then all of a sudden I well receive an old picture, letter or email and it will get me going again. I especially find it interesting when someone contacts me from a branch of the family I know little about.

I have collected many stories, dates and pictures and my dream is to scrapbook it all. Certainly not an easy task. But a girl can dream can't she.

Cards I made in class

I went to Memory Lane, my local scrapbook store for a card class this week. Linda McDonald, who I had the pleasure of meeting at the crops held at the store, is a fantastic card maker. She does it for her own pleasure and to give to friends and realitives. She has taught a couple of card classes lately and these are the two amazing cards she taught us to make. Both use the cuttlebug and shapeabilitie dies. I wish I had her amagination when it comes to making cards. I can't wait to see what card class idea she comes up with next month.

Today is a special someones birthday

This is an engagement picture of my son Jason and his fiancé Amy.

Today Amy turns 22 and I wanted to wish her the very best of birthdays. Amy and Jason have been dating since they were 13. In May 2008, when they were both 20 years old, Jason was in a car accident which left him a quadriplegic. He is paralyzed from mid chest down and although he does have use of his arms he will not regain use of his fingers.

Amy had just finished college and had gotten a new job but she put everything on hold so that she could be with Jason to help him in his long recovery. Jason has accepted his disability very well and I have no doubt that Amy's love for him is what gave him strength and such a positive attitude.

Amy really is a very special young lady. She is one of the most caring, loving, supportive and mature people I know. She not only was there for Jason she was there to support me also and I don't know how I would have handled it all if it wasn't for her. I have always wanted a daughter and Amy is not only like my daughter and she is also a wonderful friend.

I hope that you have a fantastic birthday Amy because you really deserve it.

My Scrapbooking Weekend

I had a great time this weekend at my local scrapbook store. I just love to go there to scrap, chat or shop. On Friday night Verna the owner of Memory Lane in Smiths Falls, Ontario had a free crop and several ladies took advantage of it. Kate (my sons girlfriend) and I headed over there around 4 o'clock and didn't leave until 10. We worked on layouts and cards and really enjoyed chatting with the ladies.

On Saturday we arrived at 10am for a full day of scrapping. Wendy Visser came to give us a class on making a grunge paper album. She taught us to make a Tim Holtz grunge paper rose which we decorated the cover of the album with. We learned a lot of great techniques filling the rest of the album and had tons of fun. Wendy also had a class to teach us about copic markers and we made a valentines easel card so we could get a chance to color with the copics. If anyone is interested in having Wendy teach a class or wants to see the other wonderful cards she makes you can find her blog here The pictures show a sneek peek at Wendy's album, my album and card and Myself, Wendy and Kate during the class.

Today I kept my wonderful grandson while his Mom, Dad, Uncle and Aunt went out for a Valentines dinner. It was so nice to get to spend some time with him. He is 9 months old and is trying very hard to crawl. He can move pretty fast crawling backwards but hasn't got the hang of going forward yet. LOL

Making a tear bear

I'm sorry I haven't posted for a few days but I have been busy Scrapping. As I mentioned in my earlier post I was taking part in a cyber scrapbooking crop. I joined the crop for several hours on Thursday and had tons of fun and laughs. Esther one of the owners of the yahoo group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ScrapBookingClasses/ took the time to teach me how to make Tear Bear's. I had lots of fun doing it and although he is not perfect I don't think he turned out to bad. If you would like to see some of the tear animals Esther makes and sells you can check out her blog here . I will be posting later today to fill you in on what I made at the scrapbooking class I took over the weekend.

Welcome

I'd like to welcome you to my very first blog. If I had known how easy it was to set one up I would have done it a long time ago. I had tried to make a website about my family tree a few years ago but couldn't get the hang of html so gave up. I didn't find out until recently that I didn't need to know it to have my own blog.
I love to scrapbook, make cards and research my family tree. As time goes on I want to share my layouts, cards, favorite websites and a bit of my life with you. I hope that you well enjoy coming to visit.
I have recently joined some yahoo groups that talk about scrapbooking. I'm really enjoying chatting with all the wonderful people who belong to the groups. Later today I am going to joining in on my first cyber crop with one of those groups. This group has different scrapbooking classes that you can join in on including paper piecing, doing a Book of Me (BOM), teaching tips and tricks on using a cricut and ideas for making layouts. Esther one of the wonderful ladies in the group makes amazing tear bears and other animals which she sells on Ebay and she is going to show me how to make one at the cyber crop today. I am really excited about that. I have everything I need to make them but just can't get the hang of doing it. I want to make some for my grandsons scrapbook pages so I can't wait to get started.
I guess thats all for now. I'll let you know how the cyber crop goes.
